I spoke with Dave at the Nashville concert, regarding the speakers in Steve's cabinets. He informed me that they were stock AC30s. What I forgot to ask is whether they were the 16ohm, 8ohm, or 4ohm.

I'm kind of surprised he uses V30's. They can suffer from some pretty nasty cone cry at volume.

Last time I checked he was using greenbacks...the old Legacy's had them and sounded waaaay better than the V30's but they blow out really easily. I'm sure Steve could afford a new cab every show though 8)

he's been using the v30s since after the first run of legacys. i use 'em, and they sound killer at volume, so i dunno what you're talking about. :)

Then clearly you don't use half the volume you think you do. Dime out your plexi, they'll cry.

i play a 100w carvin head thru a 2x12 with v30s. the places i gig, stage volume IS house volume, and the houses are pretty big.

i have no idea what you're on about :)

Whatever dude. If you need to feel superior be my guest but many players have this issue with V30's not the least of whom is Scott Henderson. If you don't then good for you but quit talking shit like like these speakers don't exhibit this behavior. They do and its well documented.

erm, dude, use whatever works for you - i'll bet that's what steve does as well. i'm sure scott has a need to crank the speakers to where they'd exhibit cone cry, but i obviously don't, regardless of how loud i crank them for recording and gigging purposes, and i absolutely love 'em. this really has nothing to do with superiority. i have no idea why you're taking what is clearly my personal experience with speakers i use every day so personally.
