Re: 5 June 2016 - Manchester, UK - PAW Tour

I thought it was a great show! I won't spoil it for anyone reading this.. It's cool to hear songs that you'd never normally hear live like 'The Riddle'. The only thing I would have liked is to have heard some stuff from the PAW25th/Modern Primitive and Flex-Able instead of the 'hits'. Personally pre...

How did the records get their names?

Just curious about how some of Steve's records got titled.. Does anyone know any stories about how it happens?

Steve's Synth Sounds

Does anybody have any samples/patches/knowledge of the synth sounds Steve uses? I ask because I'm having an album launch show and want to play a cover of Velorum, but the Naked track has all the instruments still there, which obviously isn't suitable when you have a whole band playing too. I believe...

Re: How does Steve do it?

Easy - Pro Tools. Its standard practice to both gate or simply automate the track to mute at certain points. You'd take a DI from the guitar for reamping in the studio. This way you can either gate/automate the amplifier without the effects (Steve apparently records dry, without effects) or modify t...

Re: Help me decide.. in depth JEM discussion!

So I got my Evolution today and put it in, and its pretty much exactly what I was after! I've found its a lot cleaner than other pickups - by which I mean the notes seem to be more separated in a chord rather than a blur. Accidently got an F spaced though, but for some strange reason the pole pieces...

Re: Help me decide.. in depth JEM discussion!

I have played through Vais full stage set up (many moons ago) ...guess who I sounded like ? I completely dismiss the whole idea of playing through somebody's rig and not sounding like them. The electric guitar, pedals, amplifiers etc form a closed circuit, so its impossible not to sound like them. ...

Re: Help me decide.. in depth JEM discussion!

Just seen this whilst scouring Japanese websites.. http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.ikebe-gakki.com/ec/srDispCategoryTreeLink/doSearchCategory/11010D25000/04-05/4/1&prev=search" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; comes out at around £1400GBP. Seems like a g...

Re: Help me decide.. in depth JEM discussion!

Interesting about the DBK.. They're always up on ebay, always. I could pick one up from about £700, but it seems like people struggle to sell them for some reason. Decided I'll probably save a little extra and go for the 7v since it'd be easy to sell without much/any loss if I don't like it! that's...

Re: Help me decide.. in depth JEM discussion!

And another point - its established the premiums good, but not great.
But I'm curious about how the other JEMs are rated (7DBKs, FPs etc).

Opinions?

Re: Help me decide.. in depth JEM discussion!

Interesting stuff! I modified my USA Jaguar for a hot humbucker in the bridge, then fiddled around with the tremolo to get it to dive bomb so the strings are almost like a strat tremolo being fully down. I have to say, the myths about Jaguar's ability to hold tune is complete and utter BS. I could d...

Re: typical Vai licks

My go to lick's are ingrained in me from years of simple parrot guitar.. playing what I could hear and copy without having to understand it all. And from my first inspirations, Gilmour, Page, Lifeson. As I'm sure you probably guessed from my screen name. 90% of my licks are MY licks, I just seem to...

Help me decide.. in depth JEM discussion!

I've been GASsing for a JEM for quite a while, and have the opportunity to buy an 2006 7vwh for just over £1k. Thing is, I've never played a JEM (or indeed any other Ibanez) since I'm a devout Fender guy and play a Jaguar 99% of the time. So I have a few questions. I made my mind up a while ago I di...

Re: Carvin Legacy VL100

It really is a beast of an amp, so damn loud! Got around to using it in the studio, and you can get the EXACT tone using an SM57 and a couple of C414's. I think people seem to forget how much a microphone and its placement will vary the sound of an amplifier, let alone the post production.. To cut i...

For The Love of God Universe Replica

So I was watching the Google Hangout with Steve on the new DVD, and noticed that at around 2:07:00 he mentions that the FTLOG Universe is in Japan being replicated "and I wont say anything more" 25th anniversary of the UV and P&W this year, so maybe they're working on a special issue of the U...
