There's a lot of techniques that Steve doesn't use.
I've never heard him do any flemanco.
I've never heard him do any chicken picken.
I've never heard him do any classical counterpoint kinda stuff.
He doesn't do any two handed tapping stuff like this from Adam Fulara, where one hand plays bass, the other plays lead http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRmKL3ux ... re=related
There's other things he doesn't do I am sure, the guitar is a very versitile instrument.

I assume that you`re referring to different guitar playing techniques. There is a lot of stuff that Steve doesn`t do. First thing that comes to mind are the different bending techniques used mostly in country guitar styles: bending behind the nut, bending chords, the Donahue bend...
he doesn't do this kind of stuff in the beginning of this vid

What difference does it make?snake2007 wrote:what tecnique Vai don´t use ?
If he doesn't use every 'technique', is he therefore a bad player?
Are we all bad players because we don't use techniques that people will be using in 15 years' time that we don't know of yet?
well...flamenco is the hardest thing you can do in guitarplaying by far. And I dare to say Vai can NOT play flamenco and won´t be able to learn it anymore to be a good flamencoplayer. I also think he doesn´t want to, so....
.
Check out Paco de Lucia! He´s like the Steve Vai of Flamenco hehe.

Here are some bending techniques that Vai doesn`t use: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZ1n1A_B1v4
But like someone stated: nobody has implied that the usage of certain techniques would make anyone better/worse player.

OK - it should just be rephrased as 'what difference does it make'?
You should hear music when listening to music - not a bunch of 'techniques'. If you are aware of technique, it is usually a sign of poor music.
As they say of actors - if you are aware that someone is acting, then it's bad acting.
