"we believe that the ability of any musician with access to the Internet to view and download these interpretations is essential to the vitality of the music industry as well as paramount to the spirit of the music itself."

and not just that.. the global culturization that it implies... intelectually and emotionally..

Before the Internet, people used to get together and learn tunes. Over distances, people would notate tablature or sheet music and mail it. This is nothing new. And, Internet powertabs are wonderful for learning because I can do playback at any speed, jump around between songs, and get songs not available in tablature books.

Here are the tablature books I own (aside from 100+ guitar magazines with transcriptions):

Toadies - Rubberneck
Steve Vai - The Elusive Light and Sounds Vol 1
Spin Doctors - Pocket Full of Kryptonite
Current Alternative (Meat Puppets, REM, Hole, Sound Garden)
Joe Satriani - Surfing With the Alien
Nirvana - Unplugged in New York
Metallica - And Justice For All

Now, on to my tab collection of things that will never be put in print:

NOFX
Television theme songs
Video game theme songs
Dave Wiener
Agent Orange
The Ataris
Johann Sebastian Bach
Bad Religion
Black Flag
Tracey Bonham
Buckethead
Cake
Dead Kennedys
Dead Milkmen
Eels
Tommy Emmanuel
Goldfinger
Michael Hedges
John5
Leo Kottke
Avril Lavigne
Lustra
Lisa Loeb
Tony Macalpine
Mad Caddies
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
Ministry
MxPx
The Offspring
Penguin Cafe Orchestra
Presidents of the USA
Sex Pistols

I am one of those people that loves guitar. I love hearing it played, love watching someone playing, and like to play it myself. Just like golf -- I love playing, but I am not any good. Most of the time, when I play guitar, no one can discern what I am trying to play. But, I like to sit down and see the magic in the form of tablature. With software, I can set a slow tempo and a loop going and learn pieces of songs. My dad used to say that I knew ten seconds of every song I liked.

Without tablature for the music I like, I will most likely lose interest in guitar completely, and with it, the desire to listen to guitar music. Just like a teen that plays football, you want to play like your heroes. When I can jam out part of Vai's The Final Solo or Dave Wiener's Party Piece, I really like to sit and play. If it is just about listening, guitar will become just like piano for me -- sounds great, what else is on?

Can the artists speak up on this issue? Can we change the mind of the MPA?
