I played a guitar at the store the other day... RG220B or something...It played really nicely and does what I want it to do for a pretty good price (300).

However, upon returning home and reading about it, I found many mixed opinions about it...

I haven't had any experience with guitars with floating bridges, basically, is this a guitar that will break down in 2-3 months and have to be replaced? I want something reliable, any suggestions?

The guitar won't "break down" on you, but lower end guitars have economy parts...So the trem might work OK at first, but after a while of use, it won't stay in tune anymore.

And that's life.

What exactly would wear down and cause it to come out of tune over time?

Could I just purchase those parts separately and have a professional put them into the guitar or should I just save up and buy a higher-end guitar?

Save your time (and money) and get a better guitar.
You could buy a cheaper guitar, but to then have to buy new parts and leave it with a tech for a week is too much of a hassle...
Save up some money, and shop around for a good price.
You'll be surprised to see how "affordable" those expensive guitars can be!

i bought an esp mh 301 for about 500 and i love it. It comes with a floyd rose and emg hz pickups, and so far the only problem i've had with it was the wiring in the output jack but that was easily fixed with a soldering iron, anyway if you want a nice affordable guitar with a floyd rose i'd check out some esp's or maybe some jackson's or even some cheaper ibanez guitars, theres lots of affordable guitars out there, you just have to look.

check the "used guitar" section at your local music store or even a pawn shop for an RG550 or RG570
either of those used should only run you $300.00 tops & will have the original "Edge" trem

I'm scared to go on eBay, don't want to blow 700 dollars on something that is fake O_o.

Ibanezrules.com made me paranoid lol.

i'm telling you dude,
a used RG550 or RG570 is the way to go!
look them up! do some research!
even on *bay they don't cost THAT much.
check your local music shops too!

...unless you're looking for a JS or JEM or JP model
those you'll NEVER find for less than $1000.00 US
