I think Eddie plays one of these on 5150 if I remember right...
As for the hardtail... yikes... if it looks like the way it has been posted there will be a lot of Jems sitting gathering dust on shelves.
A New Jem????

Yuck. I wonder if they'll cost more then the JEM's in production now!?!
That thing is very disappointing.
I thought I remembered Steve saying that he didn't want to put his name on a guitar because he didn't think anyone would want one with his name on it...
That rear graphic/decal/inlay is huge. It's gaudy but not in a good way.
The bridge also looks a bit strange IMO.
I've been waiting for years for a fixed bridge Jem, and when I heard the buzz on another forum I got all excited. But when I saw the photo of that I became incredibly flacid. I wish it had a funky colour, with coloured pup's, no logo, and maybe the regular Gotoh fixed bridge. The neck on it is cool though.

Not digging the decal. Will have to see better pics to or see it in person to pass judgment. Other than that it's ok. I like the VBK's look so I don't mind this at all. That decal could be a deal breaker though.
Yes, my earlier "Why?" was as in "Why that?".
I own two Satriani hardtails that are just simply great guitars. I have been wanting a hardtail Jem for years now.
The bridge I can live with. I don't like it but it wouldn't be a deal-killer.
But I cannot see myself buying that Jem unless it's revealed that the graphic is easily removable without any visible damage to the guitar.
Plain black would have been better than that graphic. A smaller pearloid inlay of the Vai logo without the Captain Planet logo behind it probably would have been fine.
This is such a letdown.

I just see no point to this Jem at all, I'm afraid!
I really do wonder if this is a proper representation of what it will look like. I mean, I just don't see Steve being happy with that vulgar graphic. I don't see the need for a hard tail Jem, from a Steve Vai signature model point of view. You just don't associate his guitars with hard tails do ya?? OK OK sometimes he plays guitars with hard tails, but does he do it often enough to justify a new Jem?
Just an opinion. *shrug*
Happy New Year everyone!

I think the decal looks great as a logo but I just don't like its use on this guitar. It takes it from a Jem, which even some players who aren't into Vai own and adore, to a guitar for Steve Vai fans. I'd feel the same if the UV777BK (my main guitar) had, say, a chrome or abalone Vai logo instead of the third eye pyramid inlay (even though that would look cool especially as one of Steve's personal guitars).
I would much to prefer either the option of whammy or hardtail for the current Jems, or a production version of the natural-finish hardtail Jem from the Steve's Guitars gallery.

Neither do you see him playing a whole bunch of Jems released through the years, but I tend to think of Jems as an extension of Steve's creative expression, rather than "Own a replica of Steve Vai's personal guitar!" If Steve wants to release a hardtail Jem, and chuck the decal on it, that's his creative choice and as a fan I support that, but as a consumer I think I'll stick with my Jem7VWH and UV777BK. Even though they both look like Vai guitars, I feel they stand alone on their own merits. I'd feel funny playing them if they had "VAI" written on them.djhollowman wrote:I don't see the need for a hard tail Jem, from a Steve Vai signature model point of view. Sorry but it just looks like another 'digital jem' and some bad photoshop to me...
Couldn't agree more, it doesn't even look in proportion.

The fella there called Brambram who claims "It came from an open Ibanez directory which featured more images of guitars already confirmed through sites like thomann."
Now, I ain't saying it's true, or even that I believe him - I'm just revealing my sources!!
There's also this: http://theguitaraddict.blogspot.com/200 ... hammy.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
We'll just have to wait and see!
