anyone have some good settings they can recommend for using the boss ds1 and tubescreamer to get that ''vai'' tone ? I've got a stock ds1 and a ts-808..hoping someones played with these two before and got a great sound of them..
for Ds-1 i usually have the distortion at about 10 oclock or sometimes lower, nice distortion but not too much, the tone is usually at 11, not too harsh and not to soft, its the perfect middle setting in my opinion and i think it sounds very Vai'ish, especially with my Evo pick ups.

actually, steve uses his boss DS-1 on his dirty channel as a boost for solos and such......
he will set his DS-1 at......
dist 10-11 o'clock
tone 11 o'clock
level 12 o'clock
i actually watched the "live in astoria" DVD, and there was a part that showed a close up of him and his foot engaging this pedal, and i slowed it down to a "freeze frame" and zoomed in and saw these settings........
