He was obviously using the backup mirror Jem... there must have been a problem with "Fuman".

Dont you think its a shame that the Bad Horsie Jem has no fret of life? I would have thought its his trade mark design for all Jems, but hey... I was offered yesterday the Bad Horsie Jem (Dunno which one) for £1999.99, which I think is pretty good, but I think it just had standard pearl fretting. One thing that pisses me off about the Jems are the machine heads on volume and tone, my lickle baby Encore from like years ago has the exact same machine heads, my Ibanez S520ex however has the aluminium black "Grippy" heads... you'd think after all that quality goes into making a Jem that they'd use like gold coloured heads for volume and tone like on some other expensive Ibanezes.

Hey Mikey,, I noticed on at least one of the Mirror top Jems that it had a big peace of Neon Orange tape? What's that all about?

The "tree of life" or "vine" inlay is NOT a Steve Vai exclusive. Ibanez used the "Vine" on Tama acoustics in the mid seventies. I'm not too interested in it. Add a chrome vine and I might be.
On most of Vai's guitars, he tapes the treble side of the neck humbucker - apparently, he has been quoted as saying that his aggresive playing style always led him to get the high E string stuck underneath the "bezel" of the Dimarzio Evolutions. A number of the guitars have a piece of tape on the side of the body with their "names" written on them. These were put on the guitar by Steve's tech Thomas Nordegg to help him spot a guitar quickly in the rack.
By the way, I forgot to mention another not-often seen Mirror-top that is out with us on tour called "OBY". It's a backup for EVO.
