id say go for it, he'll teach you technique if nothing else, and, dare i say it, hes actually one of the more tasteful shredders, he has some interesting bits in it and has an ear for melody

im interested in this too, the boss gt-8 looks to have just about everything i would want in one, the only disadvantage against hte pod xt live being the easy updates and pc customisation that come with the pod the only trouble is, does it actually sound any good, in comparison to like a cheap laney...

try learning snippets of other peoples solos, then improvise around the same idea, try different melodies, sing things in your head and play them

overall though, i agree with ricardo, rythm is the most important thing, rythmic variation

I think it would be a great idea for you to do the next ALS, i think i could wait for the next RI in order to get some more crazy guitar based Vai. I think you once said somewhere that you'd like to do your piece pushing the boundaries of gutiar as far as you can before you lose the ability to do so...

i use tissues, and as yet it hasnt affected tuning stability or nething, just shove em under your backplate i dont think theres a lot of difference between them soundwise unless youre eric johnson, and i think they will all do the job, its just up to what you have handy, i doubt theres any differenc...

i havent played a carvin, but i own an RG2550E prestige and the prestige ibanezs are very nice guitars
