I use my middle for convinience, its easier than discarding the pick, and it makes things like tapping in the middle of a fast picked lick easier, but as Vai himself said, its whatever works for you, don't force yourself to learn technique you dont feel comfortable with! im interested in this too, the boss gt-8 looks to have just about everything i would want in one, the only disadvantage against hte pod xt live being the easy updates and pc customisation that come with the pod the only trouble is, does it actually sound any good, in comparison to like a cheap laney...

i use tissues, and as yet it hasnt affected tuning stability or nething, just shove em under your backplate i dont think theres a lot of difference between them soundwise unless youre eric johnson, and i think they will all do the job, its just up to what you have handy, i doubt theres any differenc...
