What i did here is test out the tone of differnt tubes in the V1 spot of a carvin Legacy. alot of people ask " what does XXX tube sound like? and What are the tone differnces between AAA tube and BBB tube"?..... so i posted some clips of various tubes so people can HEAR the differnce for themselves....

honestly, a NEW carvin legacy costs about the same as a USED marshall. id get the legacy.

i dont know exactly what marshall steve used before, but i would think a JCM 800 or a DSL 2000 would get you the vai tone.

if you installed the pickup yourself ( or not) , check the red wire and make sure its connection is very tight. A lose connection causes loss in output.

no, the power break is a separate attenuator....like the webber and the hot plate. you plug it inbetween the amp head and the cab. costs about the same as the hot plate, i had to special order mine cause no one will carry them or stock them in a store, always a special order.

i personaly got the Marshall "power break" because its easy to use. i have the evo 2 pickup in a basswood body guitar, and it kicks ass! This pickup is very "middy" with out the "ice-pick treble" associated with the original evo pickups. Its almost to me like a hot "fred" with a bit more "nasal sound" to it. I really like it.
