Re: How to reproduce this beautiful sound in Steve Vai video?
I know my response may seem overly simplistic but if you really want to emulate a particular tone from a particular guitarist, in this case Vai, then I would get the guitar and amp he uses. You're still not gonna get his exact tone though. Close but not exact cos' simply put, you don't have his fing...

Yes I read the same thing about the 1meg volume pot too in a Guitar World interview he did when Fire Garden was just released.

Re: What TYPE of tubes???
well, does that matter? I´ve never read about this, and usually I´m pretty accurate if it comes to my sound...really, I don´t think this is an important spec if nobody ever takls about it^^. But feel free to explain what it is, maybe I´m wrong :) Of course it matters. There is a difference in tone ...

Re: New Jem? -Forget it - I say re-issue Ibanez Jem 77BFP
And I am serious - I would buy it on the spot if it was priced around 3K Would you? Go buy a used one today on the spot- you'd probably save $1000 too from 3k Great advise - and would you suggest where to go to get one for that price??? Constantly check Ebay and Craigslist. I've seen some BFPs and ...

Definitely not. For 3k I'd rather get a Tom Anderson or a SuhrJeminator wrote:And I am serious - I would buy it on the spot if it was priced around 3K
Would you?
And for goodness sake bring back the VSBL

Re: New Jem? -Forget it - I say re-issue Ibanez Jem 77BFP
I'd hope any Jem reissue would have the appropriate bridge instead of what they are putting on the new Jems. Ibanez needs to get their act together on this issue. I'm not buying a Jem without the edge/lo-pro edge until Steve starts using a newer bridge. That's why I'm never buying a new Ibby again....

No one short of Thomas Nordegg will be able to tell you that.
Sure the Legacy amps come stock with GTs but I'm pretty sure they get changed to whatever Vai prefers

I would say that 95% of the time, yes he does use a boost for solos.Patill wrote:So does Steve always use an extra amount of gain (like the Jemini, or DS-1 or TS) for solos?
I mean live and for the recordings?

I wish they produced more of your Legacy model. Mine is noisy as F*&^K on the gain channel even with the volume turned down on my guitar. I need to use a decimator to quiet that beast. Of course you can't get away with using some sort of noise gate  As long as you have the distortion any high...

I've had my '89 77FP for ten years now. A while ago I started establishing a custom guitar. It has an RG470 body with Lo-Pro Edge and Gotoh tuners & locking nut. And a Jem7vwh neck. I'm finding it to be better than my 77FP! Just need to upgrade the pickups for better ones. With less hum. Mandatory ...
