haven't listened to too much buckethead but what i've heard is not very interesting musically, at least not more than early dream theater. Nowadays-dreamtheater, since train or thought or so is really monotonous and boring as hell.
i'd say i dislike them both, but i dislike petrucci the least

if you're talking about studio recordings, IMHO there are many factors nowadays that i think weren't there earlier. -recordings are made in several takes and separately -there is much use(and abuse) of compressors and the like -record-selling is much more demanding so producers must be really really...

of course ,me too...however i am practically at kindergarden when it comes to reading music...i've always used my ears and "piano roll"...that's for 7 years or so of selftaughtness...i started taking guitar lessons about 2 months ago and i'm just starting to learn how to read

writing music is not about having a method, at least that's what i think and i bet most people do too. the creative part of the brain is a mess and so is the creative process of writing music at least until most of it is materialized (that is, written or whatever) and one can start working on struct...
